WILKES-BARRE TWP. — A Scranton man was arrested on charges he stole a trailer containing $16,000 of tools and wire outside Lumber Liquidators on Mundy Street early Wednesday.

Police allege Jeffrey Sean Kaub, 41, used bolt cutters to cut a lock off the trailer’s hitch. He then hauled it away with a Chevrolet Silverado pickup just before 1 a.m., authorities report.

Hours later, an officer spotted the Chevrolet at the Speed Mart service station on Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard where Kaub was arrested just after 8:30 p.m.

Kaub allegedly confessed and led police to the trailer where it was recovered near his residence.

According to a criminal complaint:

A trailer valued at $3,800 containing assorted hand and power tools and wire valued at $16,000 was stolen. Surveillance cameras recorded a man driving a dark colored Chevrolet pickup pulling into the parking lot at about 12:20 a.m.

The man removed bolt cutters from his truck to cut a lock off the trailer’s hitch. He then backed up the truck, latched the trailer and drove away at about 12:49 a.m.

An officer patrolling Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard spotted the Chevrolet at Speed Mart and recognized the man, identified as Kaub, in the store matched the description of the suspect.

Police searched Kaub’s truck, finding a pipe commonly used to smoke crack cocaine, a burned spoon with residue, a scale, a small bag of baking soda, and a single tablet of Oxycodone.

Kaub also reportedly told police he stole the trailer.

Kaub was arraigned by District Judge Richard Cronauer in Luzerne County Central Court on charges of theft, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
