WILKES-BARRE TWP. — A man who wanted to show his support for police at Thursday night’s Skate With a Cop fundraiser at Skateaway quickly wore out his welcome when he kept falling over and almost colliding with other skaters, officers say.

William Andrew Gavlick, 31, was allegedly drunk.

Police say they eventually asked him to leave, and he became belligerent.

Gavlick was then cited with public drunkenness, but the incident wasn’t over yet.

When he received the citation, he allegedly tore it up and threw it on the ground.

“Gavlick was advised if he refused to pick up the citation he would receive additional citations,” states a Facebook post by township police. “Gavlick refused to pick up the citation and left the property.”

Gavlick, of Gilligan Street, Wilkes-Barre, now faces two additional citations for scattering rubbish and disorderly conduct.

Skate With a Cop was organized to help raise money to purchase ballistic shields for local police. It was also touted as a way for residents to get to know their officers.
