SCRANTON — The Diocese of Scranton unveiled the first redesign of its website in about 10 years, promising easier access to the most frequently searched items.

The homepage now includes a string of short video clips shot around the diocese in recent years, from a fly-over of St. Peter’s Cathedral in Scranton to young volunteers conducting a cleanup on the Day of Service and the 2017 dedication of St. Jude Church in Mountain Top.

“Our website is an important tool for not only representing the Diocese and its mission but more importantly it helps people live our faith fully and share it freely with others,” Bishop Joseph C. Bambera said in a media release. “The new site provides dynamic, specialized and relevant information to visitors.”

The new site is intended to make it easier to find a parish, a Mass time, a school or a clergy member. A horizontal menu bar on the top of the homepage has links to those services and a “Find a Helping Hand” tab directing a visitor to programs provided by Catholic Social Services, replacing a separate site (cssdioceseofscranton.org).

The top menu bar also has a link to a Spanish language version of the site.

Another horizontal menu bar immediately below that has some of the headings from the previous web design. It includes a link to the Child Protection Victim Assistance page of the site, and a diocesan directory.

Both menu bars remain at the top of the site as the visitor navigates the links.

“Certainly, our goal is to facilitate the most effective and timely communication with the members and leaders of each of our parishes,” Catherine Butel, Diocesan Secretary for Parish Life, said in the release. “This dynamic new website will be such a valuable tool in making these connections.”

The new site keeps the old address: www.dioceseofscranton.org.
