WILKES-BARRE — City police are searching for a dark-colored sedan they believe was involved in a shooting that sent a man to a local hospital about 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

A man was shot in the 200 block of Bowman Street following an altercation, according to Wilkes-Barre City Police Chief Joseph Coffay.

Coffay said three shots were fired, and the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the upper torso before the dark-colored sedan fled.

The chief also noted that the victim was followed to the 200 block of Bowman before the altercation occurred.

Coffay said the man’s injury did not appear to be life-threatening.

In a Facebook post later Saturday, police identified the victim as a 28-year-old but did not name him.

Residents said they heard three gunshots before hearing a car race down the block.

Five department cruisers responded to the scene.

After cordoning off the area with police tape, officers appeared to be searching for shell casings.

Wilkes-Barre Police are seen on Bowman Street about 6 p.m. Saturday after gunfire was reported in the area. Chief Joseph Coffay later said one man was shot in the upper torso, and officers were searching for a car that fled the scene.
