MILL HALL — Republican Jessica Bowman-Hosley, described as a longtime conservative leader, has announced her candidacy in the 12th Congressional District.

Hosley is seeking the seat held by Rep. Tom Marino, R-Lycoming Township, who is retiring, citing health reasons.

“My parents taught me the importance of public service and raising my three children has showed me that we need leaders in Washington who are not afraid to take a stand for what is right today and for our future generations,” Hosley said in an emailed news release. “I am a lifelong resident of the 12th congressional district, I love our communities, and I am committed to fighting for our north-central Pennsylvania values each and every day in Congress.”

Hosley said she has been endorsed by former Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. Senator and two-time presidential candidate Rick Santorum and President Donald Trump’s Pennsylvania Campaign Chairman David Urban.

A special election will be held in conjunction with Pennsylvania’s May 21 primary.

Hosley is the second Clinton County Republican to enter the race and seventh Republican seeking the seat. The GOP’s nomination will be made at a convention of party delegates in Williamsport on Saturday, March 2.

The nominee chosen will oppose Marc Friedenberg, a Democrat nominee from State College, the only Democrat to submit his name for consideration. Friedenberg, a Penn State faculty member, was defeated by Marino in November.

Hosley is a lifelong resident of the 12th Congressional District. Raised in a conservative, Christian home in Potter County, she said she knows the importance of fighting for faith, family and the freedoms protected by the Constitution.

Hosley earned a Bachelor’s degree at Lock Haven University and both a Masters and Doctorate degree at Penn State University. After teaching in a local school district, she joined the faculty of her Alma mater, Lock Haven University.
