WILKES-BARRE — A fire broke out at a home at the corner of Madison and Beaumont streets late Wednesday, but a neighbor said all the occupants got out safely.

Just after midnight, a firefighter was in the top floor of the three-story structure using a small ax on a wall, though it appeared any fire was out at that time.

A ventilation fan was set up on a side porch.

Crews were called to the scene at about 11:45 p.m.

The residence at 97 Madison St. is near the home on North Main Street that burned in a major blaze Jan. 31.

Police cruisers blocked vehicle access to the blocks of Beaumont Street closest to Madison as firefighters worked through precipitation that had turned to all rain.

Multiple city engines responded, along with one from Kingston.
