WILKES-BARRE — City police arrested two men Friday at the Sherman Hills Apartment Complex they suspect were involved in robberies last week and may be linked to other strong-arm thievery.
Ashavan Terrell Monroe, 22, also known as “Avon,” and Ravone Davis, 31, were apprehended when police responded to an apartment in Building 304 at Sherman Hills.
Monroe attempted to jump out a window and Davis was found hiding in a closet, police said.
Police allege Monroe was involved in an armed robbery outside United Check Cashing in Wilkes Plaza, Wilkes-Barre Township, at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday. About one-hour later, police say Monroe and Davis allegedly robbed a man and a juvenile at gunpoint in the area of 312 New Grant Street in Wilkes-Barre.
Davis was wanted on an alleged parole violation in New York and was in possession of marijuana when he was arrested, police said.
Police on their Facebook page stated they gathered information directly linking the two men to other robberies in the North End and East End sections of Wilkes-Barre throughout January.
As for now, Monroe is charged with a single count of robbery for the incident on New Grant Street and Davis is charged with robbing and assaulting an ex-girlfriend.
According to the criminal complaints:
A man and a 16-year-old boy were walking on New Grant Street where they are approached from behind by two men, one of them with a handgun, at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The armed bandit demanded from the victims their cell phones and a case of beer that was being carried.
The robbery on New Grant Street happened about one hour after an armed robbery at United Check Cashing where Wilkes-Barre Township police obtained surveillance pictures.
Police identified Monroe as one of the suspects involved in the separate robberies on Thursday.
Davis was charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend in Sherman Hills on Jan. 20 and fleeing police, and again assaulting her and stealing a cell phone on Feb. 9, the complaints say.
Monroe and Davis were arraigned Saturday by District Judge Richard Cronauer in Wilkes-Barre.
Monroe was charged with robbery and jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $100,000 bail.
Davis was charged with three cases that include separate counts of simple assault, and one count each of robbery, theft, harassment, flight to avoid apprehension, unlawful restraint, terroristic threats, strangulation, possession of a controlled substance by an inmate, tampering with evidence, false identification, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed at the county correctional facility for lack of $110,000 total bail.
Police said additional charges are expected to be filed against Monroe and Davis.
