WILKES-BARRE — An unspecified number of employees at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital have been placed on furlough, according to a statement provided by a hospital representative.

“We regularly adjust our staffing based on the number of patients in our care. A small number of hospital-based positions have been furloughed across various departments, none of which are direct caregivers,” the statement provided by Annmarie Poslock read. “Patient care will not be impacted by these changes. Our employees are valued for their skills and services and we will continue to evaluate operations and opportunities.”

Poslock did not elaborate on the nature of the affected positions in response to a follow-up question, but did offer some additional information about the nature of the furloughs.

“Furloughed employees will retain their positions, those who are eligible will keep their benefits, and all of them will continue to accrue leave,” she wrote in an email.

Efforts to reach a union spokesperson were not immediately successful on Monday.
