WILKES-BARRE — Brian Ferry, who was planning to run for the Democratic nomination for city mayor, will not be appearing on May 21 primary ballots, says the director of the county Board of Elections.

The 31-year-old, who recently returned to the area, talked about using urban planning to decrease crime and attract investors and employers. But his petition to get his name on the ballot was contested, with questions about getting the 100 required signatures.

Marisa Crispell, director of the board of elections, said Ferry said in a hearing in Luzerne County Court on Tuesday that he had taken at face value the claims that some of those signing his signatures were Democrats, when they actually were not.

Crispell said Ferry “graciously” agreed to revoke his bid for the nomination.

This leaves current Mayor Tony George and former city councilman George Brown as the only candidates for the mayoral primary.
