WRIGHT TWP. — Crestwood School Board President Bill Jones said Wednesday his school district email was hacked via an email sent to an unknown number of recipients with a message that asked people to call him.

“My email was compromised by someone or something,” Jones said. “We don’t know where it came from or who was behind it, if anyone.”

Jones said there was a Gmail account affixed to the message that stated: “Bill Jones, give me a call.”

In response to the message, Crestwood Acting Superintendent Joseph R. Rasmus on Saturday sent an email to the Crestwood community to disregard email correspondence from Jones.

Rasmus did not return a message left at his office on Wednesday.

Jones said he believes only his district email was compromised and not other school directors. He said the district’s “tech guy” couldn’t trace the origins of the email.

No report was made to the Wright Township Police Department.

Jones said he is campaigning for re-election to the school board but doesn’t believe any of his opponents were behind the compromised email.

“It could be those robo calls. Hopefully, no one would do his,” Jones said.
