KINGSTON TWP. — Hey, Back Mountain folks, they’re going to tear down your Sheetz.

Fear not, though, the Memorial Highway gas station and convenience store will be replaced by a new, larger facility, officials with the Altoona-based chain said Thursday.

The existing store will close at midnight April 21, with construction scheduled to begin two days later.

For Sheetz connoisseurs who may have visited the new location on Linden Street in Scranton, the new Trucksville store will look very similar, Sheetz spokesman Nick Ruffner explained.

Among the changes:

• The new store will be 4,906 square feet, compared with 3,901 square feet now.

• Vehicle-fuelling capacity will go from 16 pumps under two canopies to 14 pumps under one canopy.

• The new store will have both inside and outside seating, including a bench inside where customers can wait for made-to-order food and specialty drinks. The store also will sell beer.

If all goes to plan, the replacement will open at the end of September, Ruffner said.

Known for its bright, busy stores that are open 24-hours a day year-round, Sheetz Inc. employs more than 18,500 people and has more than 580 stores spread throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina.

In addition to Kingston Township, its Northeastern Pennsylvania footprint includes locations in Wilkes-Barre Township, Plains Township, Scranton, Dunmore, Dickson City, Clarks Summit and in the Hazleton Area.
