HANOVER TWP. — MSNBC “Hardball” host Chris Matthews is coming to Hanover Township next week to host a special live broadcast, and a release from the network on Friday provides more insight into what the show will be about.

Called “The Deciders,” the show will focus on the 2020 election, and the network set its sights on Luzerne County due to its role as a “critical county” in previous presidential elections.

Luzerne County voted for President Barack Obama twice, both in 2008 and 2012, and President Donald Trump in 2016, contributing significantly to the direction of Pennsylvania’s electoral votes in the three elections.

The broadcast will be shot at the A. Rifkin Co. on the Sans Souci Parkway next Thursday, May 16. Matthews, according to the release, will be discussing “issues affecting American workers and what is at stake in the 2020 presidential election.”

The release says the forum will involve local officials, union workers, business owners and local voters.

It’s unclear specifically what groups have been invited to be a part of the broadcast — township manager Sam Guesto told the Times Leader that he was unsure if the forum would be assembled totally by producers — but communications provided to the Times Leader show educator’s union Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) has contacted members to be a part of the forum.

The broadcast will shown live at 7 p.m. next Thursday.
