WILKES-BARRE TWP. — A Saks Warehouse Store will open to the public here on Saturday, a company spokesperson said.

It will be located at the Lord & Taylor facility on Highland Park Boulevard, and store hours will be be Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., spokeswoman Alexandra Cohen said.

Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor and Saks Off 5th all fall under corporate parent Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC), a Canadian retailer that traces its roots to 1670 and the European fur trade in North America.

The Saks Warehouse Store is coming to Wilkes-Barre Township from a distribution center in Maryland.

In July 2018, 83 employees were laid off at Lord & Taylor’s distribution center, according to a WARN notice.

When another 202 layoffs were announced earlier in 2018, the Lord & Taylor website indicated they were due to “closure,” but Lord & Taylor’s parent company HBC said the local center was staying open.

The 600,000 square-foot facility on Highland Park Boulevard, opened in 1992 and an 8,000-square-foot clearance center and outlet store formerly located within the distribution center closed in 2015.

Cohen could not say how many people will be employed at the new store.
