WILKES-BARRE — Holding its annual shareholder meeting at the F.M. Kirby Center on Public Square, Community Bank N.A. announced a 28 percent increase in operating earnings.

The Community Bank executive team hosted the event to review the 2018 performance.

Chairman of the Board Sally Steele of Tunkhannock, President/CEO Mark Tryniski and Chief Financial Officer Joseph Sutaris reviewed the company’s stellar 2018 performance, accomplishments and community involvement.

In addition, they looked forward to the remainder of 2019, including Community Bank N.A.’s acquisition of Kinderhook Bank, which is expected to close in July.

Barbara Maculloch of Dallas is the Pennsylvania president for Community Bank.

Steele and Tryniski said the bank has reached $11.5 billion in total assets.

“We’re here to tell our story of what has happened with the company over the past year,” Tryniski said. “It’s been a year of much success. We will explain how it all happened and we will talk about our plans going forward.”

Tryniski said he was extremely happy to hold the meeting in Wilkes-Barre and he praised Maculloch for her work.

“Barbara has improved our business here,” Tryniski said. “And she has raised our profile in the community. So this is a good time to come here for the annual meeting.”

Tryniski and Sutaris showcased the bank’s strong fundamentals, including:

• 2018 operating earnings of $167.8 million — a 28% increase over 2017.

• Business lending totaling $2.4 billion, reflecting a 10-year compound annual growth rate of 8.5 percent.

• First or second in deposit market share in 70 percent of the cities and towns where Community Bank N.A. has a branch.

• More than 2,200 causes and organizations supported and more than 6,000 employee volunteer hours.

“We’re proud to highlight our team’s hard work and commitment to the continued success of our institution,” Tryniski said. “Our highest commitment is to our customers, and that is reflected in everything we do, including our operating discipline. This annual meeting is a time to celebrate our successes and look ahead to this year’s goals and opportunities.”

It is among the country’s 150 largest financial institutions, with more than $11 billion in assets, and has served its communities for more than 150 years.

Community Bank System Inc. operates more than 230 customer facilities across Upstate New York, Northeastern Pennsylvania, Vermont and Western Massachusetts through its banking subsidiary, Community Bank N.A.

The bank operates 31 branch locations in Pennsylvania, with multiple locations in the Wilkes-Barre, Scranton and Hazleton areas.
