EDWARDSVILLE — Since 2013, the Edwardsville Pierogi Festival has been celebrating Polish food in the Wyoming Valley, and it’s already that time of year again.

Situated in the John J. Hopkins Memorial Park on High Street, the festival is a home for dozens of vendors, including numerous places to get all your favorite festival foods, like popcorn, ice cream, pizza and, of course, pierogi.

This year’s festival began today and runs through Saturday.

Kernel Moonie’s Bootleg Kettle Corn is one such stand at the fair, where hungry folks can get a variety of flavors of kettle corn.

Owner Justin “Moonie” Taylor, who owns a physical store in Luzerne, said the shop has been a part of the Pierogi Festival since the beginning.

“We take our kettle corn to the people,” Taylor said, saying there are numerous people who come back every year for their popcorn.

Meanwhile, a newer stand, Maddy’s Doghouse, is beginning to see that same sort of success.

Ann Elick, whose young daughter, Madison, lends her name to the stand, said this is the stand’s second year at the festival.

“It’s been really good,” she said, adding that she only expects business to pick up as the weekend wears on.

According to Elick, the stand offers a variety of confectionery delights — including a grilled cheese hot dog — and she said there are special items this weekend to fit into the pierogi theme.

Celebrations on Saturday will include a pierogi parade at 11 a.m., and a pierogi cook-off at 2 p.m. Live performances will also continue throughout the day.
