HAZLETON — A New York City man was arrested on charges he initiated a pursuit with city police while operating a motorcycle in a reckless manner on Tuesday.

Officers spotted the operators on two all-terrain vehicles and an off-road 2015 Yamaha motorcycle nearly colliding with vehicles and a cruiser in the area of Alter Street and 11th Street.

Police identified the operator of the Yamaha as 18-year-old Kenneth Azuris.

Azuris allegedly drove the motorcycle in an extremely dangerous manner threatening the public’s safety, police said.

Police said Azuris was arrested when the motorcycle stalled. Azuris allegedly struggled with officers and attempted to escape when he was arrested.

Police said Azuris was allegedly found with more than six grams of suspected marijuana.

During the pursuit, the motorcycle struck a 2012 Kia.

Azuris, of Manhattan, was arraigned Wednesday by District Judge Brian James Tupper in Luzerne County Central Court on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police, resisting arrest, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and numerous vehicle and traffic citations. He was jailed at the county correctional facility for lack of $15,000 bail.
