PITTSTON — City police charged a man they allege discharged a shotgun during a confrontation with his daughter’s boyfriend.

Kenneth John Feeney, 48, of Thistle Street, Pittston, admitted he fired a single shotgun round into the air after telling the juvenile boy to “turn around and run like a (body part),” according to court records.

But the boy told police he heard three rounds as he ran from Feeney.

According to the criminal complaint:

Officers responded to a residence on Thistle Street for a man discharging a firearm at another male. They spoke with the boy who claimed he likes to camp and was at a campsite near a cemetery when he was confronted by Feeney, his girlfriend’s father.

The boy claimed Feeney had a shotgun and said to him, “Who has the gun now?” Police said the boy reported he started to run away and heard the shotgun go off three times, the complaint says.

Police said the boy felt his life was in danger and ran home telling his mother who also lives on Thistle Street.

The boy’s mother went to Feeney’s house to speak with him but was told to get off the property.

When police initially spoke with Feeney, he claimed he was outside in a garden and heard a loud bang near a cemetery.

Feeney’s wife, Lisa, told police her husband walked toward the cemetery with a shotgun.

Police learned Feeney had given a shotgun to a neighbor about 15 minutes before officers arrived at the scene. Police said they retrieved a loaded 12-gauge shotgun from the neighbor’s residence.

Feeney during a second interview admitted he fired a shotgun but did so into the air, the complaint says.

Police said Feeney claimed he was still upset because the boy aimed a fake gun at him a few months ago. He allegedly told police he was aware the boy camped near the cemetery and he confronted the boy because he was fed up about his daughter seeing him.

Feeney was arraigned by District Judge Joseph Carmody in Luzerne County Central Court on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and harassment. He was released on $7,500 unsecured bail.
