WILKES-BARRE — An intense downpour that moved through the region late Saturday afternoon left intersections under water and basements flooded in several parts of the city and surrounding areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the area until 8:30 p.m.

Firefighters had to block off streets in several typical trouble spots, including Scott Street around the railroad underpass, where two vehicles were stranded by the rising waters.

Saturday’s intense downpour left vehicles stranded in several low-lying areas around Wilkes-Barre, including here on Scott Street near North Pennsylvania Avenue.
