A former Boy Scout employee from Pittston was arrested Thursday on charges he threatened “doomsday” to those attending the 100th anniversary event at Camp Acahela on Saturday.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police in Monroe County charged Christopher James Corey, 36, of Laurie Lane, with two counts of terroristic threats after he allegedly sent a series of text messages to Boy Scout employees.

According to the criminal complaint:

Corey was employed by the Boy Scouts as a health officer but was terminated in 2014 due to mental health issues.

Soon after Corey was fired, he began sending text messages to several Boy Scout employees expressing his intent on returning as a health officer.

Employees who received Corey’s text messages told police they considered the messages “strange” but recently changed to a “dark undertone.”

Corey’s text messages included a countdown to Camp Acahela’s anniversary event scheduled for Saturday.

Several texts police reviewed included a countdown to the event with references to shootings and blood.

A text Corey sent June 28 referenced Claus von Stauffenbuerg, a German Army officer associated with the Nazi Party who plotted to assassinate Adolf Hitler, the complaint says.

Another text Corey sent June 30 stated “T-minus 20 days and make sure you get a good contract for the house painting project, and you will also want to do a super fantastic job with carpentry work too.”

Police believe the house painting reference referred to killing a person by firearm causing blood spatter on walls and carpentry work refers to removing a body.

Corey sent a text July 13 that stated, “T-minus 7 days and until judgment day, doomsday and The Apocalypse,” the complaint says.

A text Corey allegedly sent July 17 “T-minus 4 days” and referenced Bible verse Revelations 6 1-2.

Corey was arraigned by District Judge Richard Claypool in Tobyhanna Township and jailed without bail at the Monroe County Prison.
