WILKES-BARRE — The Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame will induct 15 new members in 2019, including Frank Majikes, PIAA District 2 Chairman, and Chris Wadas, cross country/track and field head coach at Misericordia University.

The 15 members of the Class of 2019 will be enshrined at the annual induction dinner in August, according to Jim Martin, president of the John Louis Popple chapter.

The induction ceremony is set for Sunday, Aug. 11, at the Gus Genetti Conference Center in downtown Wilkes-Barre with a cocktail hour beginning at 4 p.m. and the dinner and induction at 5 p.m. Tickets are $45 for adults and $20 for children ages 3-12. Children 2 and under are free.

Joining Majikes and Wadas in this year’s class are:

Kelsey Kolojejchick, 2016 Olympic field hockey star.

Bob Barbieri, the first football coach in Pittston Area history.

Brooke Yeager, wrestling icon.

Laura Whalen Slane, former three-sport standout at Crestwood High School.

Christine Button Strumski, organizer of the first girls’ Little League softball program in Wyoming County.

• The late Jane Helman, beloved Tunkhannock track and field coach.

Joseph Karcutskie, former Wyoming Area and Brown University football standout.

Morgan Alaina Craft, of Sullivan County, a member of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Skeet Shooting team.

Bo Orlando of Columbia County, Berwick High School athletic director and former quarterback great.

Walt Fisk of Bradford County, head coach of the Wyalusing state championship team.

• The late Ed “Shovels” Kobesky, career minor league baseball player.

Joy Gallagher and Charles Liott from Hazleton, multisport athletes at Wagner College and Temple University fame.

Martin said the (LCSHOF) John Louis Popple Chapter is a non-profit service organization that endeavors to perpetuate the memory of local athletes, male and female, who have brought lasting fame and recognition to the state of Pennsylvania through their athletic achievements and community involvement.

The LCSHOF includes Bradford, Sullivan, Wyoming, Northern Columbia, and Luzerne County and is sanctioned by the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. The organization is lead by its President James T. Martin Jr., a 2008 Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame inductee.

The LCSHOF inductees include established athletes, coaches, managers and other sports administrative individuals that have excelled in their respective athletic programs.
