Nanticoke police recently concluded a three-month investigation into a May 2 threat called into Greater Nanticoke Area High School, according to a news release Wednesday.

Police stated that the threat caused the school district to lock down schools for a period of time, causing all normal and customary operations from being diverted. During the police investigation, it was determined the event was a “swatting” incident. Swatting is an action or practice of making a prank call in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of police officers to a particular address.

In this instance, numerous police units from Nanticoke, Newport Township and state police responded. The FBI assisted in the matter, and on July 25 Nanticoke police petitioned a 16-year-old boy to juvenile court for the conspiracy of making a terroristic threat.

Additional arrests are pending in the matter.
