DORRANCE TWP. — Because Liberty Plaza Inc. of Scranton wants to turn the Sunoco service center located near the Interstate 81 Interchange into a travel plaza, the township board of supervisors approved a resolution Monday night that endorses a proposed sanitary system module for the site.

Solicitor Donald Karpovich said a development plan site has been submitted to township officials by Sonni and Amabir Singh, who are listed as officers of Liberty Travel Inc. of 2222 Carbondale-Scranton Highway.

The plan, which Karpovich also submitted for review by the township’s planning commission, outlines that the present structure will be demolished and a new building housing a Liberty Travel Plaza is scheduled to be erected.

The supervisors’ approval means that the firm can move forward with a request to the state Department of Environmental Protection for a sewage system module.

In addition, the supervisors accepted a determination by sewage enforcement officer William Briar that a septic system at 7856 Blue Ridge Trail is operating as intended.

In a letter to the supervisors, Briar said an inspection by him “found no issues with the system.” Situated at the site is a trailer home, which recently changed ownership and is undergoing renovation. Briar added that because of his finding, the “home on this property can be occupied.”

In other business:

• The supervisors approved a motion to advertise a vacant position in the highway department. It was stated an individual with a Class B commercial driver’s license is being sought.

• The supervisors also approved the payment of $26,379 in invoices.

• They also moved to remit $13,440 from the liquid fuels account, leaving a balance of $88,803.

• They announced the next meeting has been scheduled at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9.
