WILKES-BARRE — Just in time for Halloween, icons of horror-comedy will be in Wilkes-Barre as the robots of Mystery Science Theater 3000 descend on the F.M. Kirby Center to make fun of a never-before-screened film.

The announcement came on Wednesday afternoon, with the Kirby Center taking to its Facebook page to announce that the show will be coming to do a live show on Oct. 23.

The concept behind Mystery Science Theater 3000, often abbreviated to MST3K by fans, is a deceptively simple one: a host and three robot companions are forced by a mad scientist to watch cheesy old horror movies, and the group of friends crack one-liners to make the process bearable for them.

Premiering in 1988, the show was hosted for its first few seasons by Joel Hodgson, who was then replaced by Michael J. Nelson between 1993 and 1999. A cult classic that found its home on networks like Comedy Central and the Sci-Fi Channel, it was then revived by Netflix in 2017, starring Jonah Ray.

This October, on its “Mystery Science Theater 3000 Live: The Great Cheesy Movie Circus Tour,” MST3K is bringing back original host Joel Hodgson for his final live tour with the series.

MST3K will be screening “Circus of Horrors,” which the post says is being screened for the first time this fall.

If you plan on going, the show will be held at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23. Tickets go on sale this Friday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. Kirby Center members can take advantage of the pre-sale, beginning 10 a.m. Thursday.
