PLAINS TWP. — There was a heavy police presence at the Red Roof Inn on Route 315 on Saturday evening following 911 calls for a reported shooting at the motel around 7:30 p.m.

Further information was not immediately available, but state and township police were among those on scene.

Reporters were asked to leave the property by hotel staff.

The motel has been the scene of past police activity, and has been frequented by individuals who were later implicated in criminal cases.

In a recent high-profile case, three suspects charged in connection with the slaying of an Edwardsville man were arrested as they left the motel on April 17.

Last October, township police arrested four people on charges they robbed a man at the Red Roof Inn in retaliation for placing a woman in a hallway after she overdosed on heroin, according to court records.
