BUTLER TWP. — Township police say they arrested James Evans Jr., 37, after he allegedly burglarized a residence and barricaded himself inside a bedroom where children were sleeping early Tuesday morning.

Evans was arrested when he was seen walking near the residence he targeted on Klingers Road in Drums at about 3 a.m., police said.

Police said Evans entered the residence through the basement awakening the homeowners.

When Evans was confronted, police allege he ran from the basement to the second floor and pushed his way past the homeowners into a bathroom. Evans then ran into a bedroom where children were sleeping and barricaded himself inside, police said.

Police said Evans exited the bedroom and ran out of the house.

Evans, of Butler Township, was arraigned by District Judge Daniel O’Donnell in Sugarloaf Township on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, loitering and prowling at night and disorderly conduct. He remained jailed Wednesday at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.
