HANOVER TWP. — Spring 2020 will bring flowers and, in Hanover Township, ice cream.
In a Facebook post Monday, the Malacari family announced that it is expanding its ice cream business to Hanover Township — opening a new store in the former PNC Bank building in the Hanover Mall on the Sans Souci Parkway.
Frank Malacari, owner/operator, along with with his twin brother Joe and sister-in-law Stephanie, said the new location will feature indoor and outdoor seating and drive-thru service.
“We’re very excited to open in Hanover Township,” Malacari said. “We feel we have a lot to offer with our ice cream. We try to give good-sized for low cost.”
Malacari said with the four ice cream locations, the family business will have 75 to 80 full and part-time employees. He said Malacari Market on Mundy Street employs 40 to 50. Malacari, his father Vito, mother Cindy and family run the store.
Malacari operates ice cream stores in Plains Township, Wilkes-Barre, and at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
“We’re just happy to give something back to the community, which has been very supportive of us wherever we go,” Malacari said. “We have very loyal customers and we are grateful for them.”
Malacari also said the former market on Route 309 near Home Depot will be re-purposed to become a restaurant, but he said that won’t open until sometime in 2020.
“We also have some other surprises to come this off-season, so stay tuned,” he said.
