WILKES-BARRE — A Plymouth man will be spending up to 15 years in prison after he was sentenced for two separate robberies, including one that ended with a taxi driver being stabbed with a pen in the head.

Angus Alphonso Garrison, 32, appeared before Luzerne County Judge David W. Lupas for sentencing on Tuesday, and it’s not the first time in the past few years he’s been sentenced by the judge.

This time, Garrison was appearing after having pleaded guilty in August to two unrelated robberies.

Police say on Oct. 19, 2018, Garrison stabbed a Burgit City Taxi driver in the head with a pen, stealing money from him. The robbery occurred in the early morning hours after Garrison and another woman were picked up by the driver, first dropping them off at Motel 6 and then picking them up again.

Garrison told the driver to drive up Reno Lane in Wilkes-Barre, at which point he stabbed the driver in the head and demanded cash. Police say the driver was found with the pen sticking out of his head. He was treated at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township.

Garrison also pleaded guilty to another robbery in Wilkes-Barre that occurred in December of last year.

The man was previously sentenced by Lupas in 2015 to spend between two and five years in state prison after he stabbed a man in the chest in Wilkes-Barre in September 2014.

This time, though, his sentence was a bit steeper.

Noting Garrison’s criminal record and history of mental illness and drug and alcohol abuse, Lupas sentenced Garrison to spend between 90 and 180 months, or seven-and-a-half to 15 years, in state prison on one of the robbery charges.

He was also sentenced to spend between 12 and 24 months on the other robbery charge, but this sentence is to be served concurrently to the other, effectively nullifying it.

Garrison was given credit for a year of time served. He was remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility to await assignment to a state prison.
