WILKES-BARRE — City council scheduled a public meeting on the proposed sale of the city’s sewer system for 6 p.m. on Dec. 17 at Genetti’s Best Western Plus across the street from City Hall.

Council Chairman Mike Belusko Monday announced the location after polling the other four members over the weekend.

The change in venue was in line with a recommendation by Mayor-elect George Brown last week for a larger room than the fourth-floor council chambers to accommodate more people on what could be a far-reaching decision to sell a public asset to a private utility company.

PFM Financial Advisors LLC will provide a status update on the sale sought by outgoing Mayor Tony George to stabilize the city’s finances and pour millions of the estimated $30 million in proceeds into the five underfunded pension plans.

“It’s going to be run like a council meeting. It’s PFM’s public meeting,” Belusko said.

Council rules allow members of the public five minutes to speak and ask questions.
