Wilkes-Barre Township Police have released two surveillance photos of the suspect in Friday morning’s robbery.

WILKES-BARRE TWP. — Township police are seeking help in identifying a man they say robbed the Wine & Spirits store this morning at the Wilkes-Barre Township Marketplace.

According to police, a black man wearing a baseball cap, a brown coat, dark pants and white and black sneakers held up a clerk at gunpoint just after 9 a.m. and made off with an unspecified amount of cash and two bottles of alcohol.

The suspect stands about 5 feet, 9 inches and weighs between 160 and 180 pounds, police say. The clerk described the weapon as a black, older-model handgun with visible wear.

Police say the man fled the store on foot, and shortly afterward a compact car of unknown make and model, possibly brown in color, was seen traveling at a high rate of speed as it exited the shopping center onto Highland Park Boulevard.

The suspect appeared at first to be shopping, according to police, selecting several bottles of alcohol and placing them on the counter. Police say he did not demand money until after the clerk told him the cost of his purchase.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Wilkes-Barre Township Police Detective Division at 570-208-4635 ext. 870, or send the department a private message on Facebook.
