WILKES-BARRE — A former Luzerne County Council candidate finds himself behind bars after a county judge revoked bail on one of the charges he’s currently facing.

Martin Dartoe, 30, of Wilkes-Barre, appeared before Luzerne County Judge David W. Lupas on Monday after prosecutors asked for his bail to be revoked on charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, stemming from an incident in March 2018.

While Dartoe was originally ordered to participate in the accelerated rehabilitative disposition, or ARD, program, which is for low-level offenders with a limited criminal history, his ARD status was revoked after he was charged with a series of alcohol-related charges.

Dartoe was accused of driving drunk and crashing a car in March, and cited for public drunkenness in May.

Dartoe had been out on bail on the resisting arrest charge up until Monday, but with that bail revoked, he will remain locked up in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility until a trial, which is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2020.

Dartoe was among seven Democrats seeking party nominations for six council seats in the May 21 primary, but he failed to secure a nomination.

A Wilkes-Barre public works department employee and native of Liberia, Dartoe first made headlines when he chased and held down a suspect who fled from State Police in January. He was awarded a city proclamation in February.
