WILKES-BARRE — Chili’s restaurant didn’t make it to Sunday after all.

The chain eatery on Wyoming Valley Mall Road outside the mall was scheduled to close after lunch on Sunday, servers told diners on Friday — news they said had been delivered suddenly earlier in the day.

Instead, they closed after lunch on Saturday.

A sign on the door indicated that the restaurant was closed for good. A call to the restaurant went unanswered shortly before 6:30 p.m., the phone ringing without picking up or going to voicemail.

A request for comment from corporate parent Brinker International was not immediately returned on Saturday.

According to the Times Leader archives, the restaurant opened in November 1992.

News of the impending closure broke on Friday, leading to a flurry of social media activity, including comments from employees who said the news came as a shock to staff, some of whom had worked there for years.
