ROSS TWP. — A 91-year-old man found dead inside his residence Friday died from multiple traumatic injuries, according to the Luzerne County Coroner’s Office.

Coroner Frank Hacken in a news release issued Monday stated George Bacon died as a result of a homicide. An autopsy was performed Saturday by forensic pathologist Dr. Gary Ross.

Bacon’s grandson, Joshua Dwane Bacon, 19, was arrested at the residence at 39 Oliver Rd. after he allegedly became physical with troopers who responded to the home for a medical call just after 7 a.m.

The body of the elder Bacon was discovered by troopers after the younger Bacon was detained.

Investigators spent more than 13 hours at the scene Friday removing items from the home and interviewing neighbors.

Neighbors told reporters the elder Bacon would often walk his dog on Oliver Road, noting the grandson moved in to live with the grandfather about a year ago.

No charges have been filed related to George Bacon’s death.

According to court records charging Joshua Bacon with aggravated assault and resisting arrest:

Troopers from the Shickshinny barracks responded to the home for Joshua Bacon who wanted to hurt himself. Joshua Bacon later called state police indicating the house was on fire but no flames were seen.

Emergency medical technicians who responded in an ambulance had to retreat and relocate when Joshua Bacon attempted to smash a window on the emergency vehicle.

When troopers arrived, they observed a shirt and a sock on the road and encountered a nude Joshua Bacon covered in blood inside the house with broken glass just outside the door.

Joshua Bacon became hostile toward troopers and refused commands to get on the floor.

The complaint says Joshua Bacon got on the floor but got up and approached the smashed front door toward the troopers who stood outside.

Joshua Bacon opened the door and charged at the troopers initiating a struggle, shoving and grabbing one trooper, the complaint says.

Troopers detained Joshua Bacon after he was stunned twice by a Taser.

Joshua Bacon was arraigned by District Judge Matthew C. Christopher in Shickshinny and remained jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $500,000 bail.
