WILKES-BARRE — A Wapwallopen man will spend six-and-a-half to 13 years behind bars for having oral sex with a child.

Matthew James Meyers, 27, of 163 Acher Road, was sentenced to state prison Thursday in Luzerne County Court on a charge of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, court papers indicate.

Thirty months of special probation will follow his prison sentence.

Court records indicate Meyers pleaded guilty to the charge in October.

He allegedly told police he knew the teenage girl was underage and said their relationship was “completely stupid.”

Judge Fred A. Pierantoni III credited Meyers for one day served and ordered him to obtain a GED, according to court documents. Meyers must register for life as a tier three sex offender.

He is to have no unsupervised contact with minors and also no contact with schools, school zones, school activities, pools, public libraries, parks or playgrounds.

He also must complete sexual offender treatment, court papers say. Meyers sentence runs consecutive to any other detainers. According to court records, Meyers was also sentenced in July to serve one to two years in prison for criminal mischief.

According to a criminal complaint, state police on April 26, 2014, interviewed a 14-year-old girl who reported that she and Meyers engaged in oral sex the previous night and again in the morning.

Police say the girl told her parents she was going camping with a friend, but then left with Meyers in his pickup truck.

The two drove around for a while before stopping at the Council Cup Scenic Overlook, police say, where Meyers asked the girl to perform oral sex on him.

He and the minor child then engaged in oral sex, police say, after which they continued driving around, eventually going to sleep in the back of Meyers’ truck.

The following morning, Meyers again asked for and received oral sex from the child, police say.

The girl indicated to police that she believed Meyers was 22-years-old, and that he knew she was a 14-year-old high school freshman, court records say. She told authorities she and Meyers were “dating.”

In another instance, Meyers rubbed his exposed penis on the girl when the two were spending the night in a motel room, according to court records.

During this encounter, the girl relayed to Meyers that she was a virgin and she wanted to lose her virginity to another virgin, police say.

Meyers told police in an interview that he believed the girl was 15-years-old, and said he thought the girl’s mother was aware of the relationship, police say.
