HARRISBURG — More than $587,000 in school safety and security grants are coming to area school districts, legislators announced Wednesday.

“Our students, faculty and staff across the 14th Senatorial District and the Commonwealth should feel safe and secure every day that they walk into school,” said state. Sen. John Yudichak, I-Swoyersville. “The School Safety and Security Grant Program is a vital resource for our school districts and intermediate units as they work to ensure the safety of their students, faculty and staff.”

“The safety of our children and the security of our schools is one of my most critical priorities,” said state Rep. Gerald Mullery, D-Newport Township. “Funding like this allows our schools to develop initiatives and programs that ensure student safety, and I am pleased to be working with our school districts to secure these funds.”

“Our children deserve to learn, and our teachers deserve to work in the safest possible environment,” Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Wilkes-Barre said. “I am happy to see this funding coming back to our school districts to improve safety and security in their buildings.”

“As a mother, a grandmother and a former teacher, there is nothing more important to me than ensuring our schools are safe places for young people to learn and grow,” said state Rep. Karen Boback, R-Harveys Lake. “My thanks go out the (School Safety and Security) Committee for their generous investment in our community.”

“Our school districts need adequate resources to properly assess and address the security needs of their facilities and the well-being of our students,” said state Sen. John Blake, D-Scranton. “I was proud to support the creation of this grant program in 2018 and applaud the Wolf administration for their continued work to improve all facets of our education system.”
