Officials with the Wyoming Valley’s hospital chains released the following statements on Wednesday regarding preparations for the coronavirus threat:
Commonwealth Health
Our hospital continually works to be prepared for all types of infectious diseases. We have been educating our team members on the infection control protocols established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the Novel Coronavirus 2019, just as we do for other types of infectious diseases.
We are using the screening guidelines for symptoms and risk factors and have a response plan to protect patients and our staff should it be needed.
We understand the sensitivity at this time and want to reassure the community that we remain alert and ready to provide such care if necessary.
— Commonwealth Health spokeswoman Annmarie Poslock
Geisinger
Geisinger continues to monitor the novel coronavirus situation and follow guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In line with CDC recommendations, Geisinger is screening all patients that seek care in our hospitals and clinics by asking them about their recent travel history.
If a person has recently returned from China or has been in contact with someone who has recently traveled to China, and is showing symptoms of novel coronavirus, we would follow traditional quarantine and isolation procedures while confirmatory tests are performed.
— Geisinger spokesman Matt Mattei
