LAUREL RUN — A patient at Clearbook Rehabilitation Center walked away from the facility and burglarized a home while attacking the homeowner late Tuesday night, according to charges filed.

State police said they arrested Brien John Fetters, 31, of Wilmington, Del., when he was found on the third floor of the home on Ridge Road in Laurel Run.

Troopers responded to the rehabilitation center located on East Northampton Street just after 11 p.m. for a man, identified as Fetters, who walked away from the facility. While en route, troopers received additional information that Fetters was throwing rocks at a house and attempting to enter, according to the criminal complaint.

Troopers and police from Wilkes-Barre Township arrived at the house and found Fetters rummaging through a third floor closet, the complaint says.

Fetters was arrested after a struggle with the troopers and officers.

The homeowner told police he was awakened when a man he did not know threw rocks at his house. He claimed the man picked up a broom and smashed several front windows and reached inside to unlock the front door, the complaint says.

Court records say the homeowner tried to stop Fetters but was overpowered and suffered an injury to his hand.

Fetters was arraigned by District Judge Joseph A. Halesey in Luzerne County Central Court on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and harassment. He was jailed at the county correctional facility for lack of $30,000 bail.
