WILKES-BARRE — City police on Wednesday evening responded to a reported shooting on Schuler Street near Solomon Creek, attracting a strong law enforcement presence, but little could be confirmed by press time.

Neighbors said they heard three or four shots and that they saw a man and a woman taken away in an ambulance.

One neighbor, Ed Hilla, said he heard shots from his home a few blocks away. He said the incident was incredibly surprising.

“It’s a very quiet street,” he said, saying he’s lived there for his whole life. Hilla said scenes like this have been rare.

Hilla added he saw a man being placed into an ambulance on a stretcher, and other neighbors say they also saw a woman being transported in an ambulance.

Wilkes-Barre Police, Pennsylvania State Police, Luzerne County detectives and members of the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office responded, but none were able to confirm to reporters what happened.

The status of those injured remains unclear, along with whether or not a suspect has been identified or apprehended.
