Classes aren’t the only thing stopped in county school districts. Upcoming school board meetings are being canceled as well.

Districts that had already held their meetings this month — including Hanover Area, Greater Nanticoke Area, Dallas and Wilkes-Barre Area — have time to decide if the April meetings will be held. But others had meetings scheduled for this week and next that were been scratched off the calendar after Gov. Tom Wolf ordered all schools to close.

Lake-Lehman canceled its Monday meeting. Northwest Area and Pittston Area had planned to hold monthly meetings Wednesday, but both were canceled. Wyoming Area canceled both the March 17 work session and the March 24 regular meeting. Crestwood nixed a meeting that had been scheduled for this Thursday, and Superintendent Robert Mehalick said the current plan is to wait until the next monthly meeting, set for April 16, provided the COVID-19 threat has diminished sufficiently.

Mehalick also said the district had found two additional sites for meal distribution for students. The district originally set up a grab-and-go system at the high school while looking for a location in the White Haven Area. He said that lunches will be available at the White Haven Library. The district also decided to distribute meals at the Slocum Fire Hall on Slocum Road just southwest of Blue Ridge Trail road.

Monday evening Hanover Area sent out an alert noting three new locations for distribution: Hanover Green Elementary, Holy Family Church in Sugar Notch, and the entrance to Marion Terrace. Those were added to the entrance to Dundee Apartments, the high school rear parking lot, the Ashley Municipal Building, and the Lee Park and Lyndwood schools.

Districts have set up different locations and procedures to get free meals for students, posting information on their websites or Facebook pages.
