My husband and I lost our home in Glendale, Pittston Township, to fire on Jan. 11.

I know there is a lot of controversy over the response time to the 911 call. I’ve lived in that house for 52 of my 58 years and that issue has surfaced from time to time for almost that long. The problem is because of the way the county lines lay. That said, this letter is NOT to complain, but to commend and thank all the first responders.

These fine men and women are all my heroes: the firefighters, police, ambulance attendants, EMTs and the state police fire marshal. All went above and beyond the call of duty.

I saw grown men cry because they couldn’t save our beloved pets and our home. We even received several phone calls from firemen who apologized for what they perceived as their shortfall.

These same firemen are volunteers! They left their homes and families that frigid morning to help someone they didn’t even know. God alone knew for sure whether or not they would return to the arms of their loved ones, yet they were willing to make that sacrifice.

God bless you all. You have our gratitude and our love.
