HANOVER TOWNSHIP — The Hanover Area School District has notified parents that a modified graduation “ceremony” will be held at the Garden Drive-In.

In a text alert sent to Hanover Area parents, the school district issued a virtual flyer that advertises a Class of 2020 graduation to be held at the drive-in theater in Hunlock Creek.

Superintendent Nathan Barrett said via email that the district developed a plan to maintain social distancing that will “provide students with the apex of their academic career, graduation.”

Students will remain in their cars with family at the drive-in, lined up in alphabetical order. They will receive their diplomas and the image “will be cast on the large screen.

“Garden Drive-in Theatre is making accommodations to decorate, and play a movie for the students and their families following the ceremony.”

More details will be announced following a planned virtual board meeting April 14. Barrett said the board is working on details to broadcast the meeting and provide for interaction with the public. Those plans will be announced closer to the meeting date.
