WILKES-BARRE — As the coronavirus pandemic continues to take hold of the nation and of Luzerne County, businesses and individuals all over the county are stepping up to ensure that no one goes without food during this pandemic.
With restaurants all over the valley closing for in-house dining but remaining open for take-out, a partnership between Wilkes-Barre Housing Authority and Vesuvio’s Pizza and Ristorante on Main Street has made a world of difference for some residents of Wilkes-Barre.
Mike Wasko and Judy Kosloski, both of Wilkes-Barre Housing, have been working tirelessly to make sure that residents of several Wilkes-Barre high rises and housing developments are taken care of while many struggle to provide for their families.
“We started doing this a few weeks ago. We wanted everyone to be able to eat,” Wasko said.
Vesuvio’s has donated over 200 large pizzas to places like the Boulevard Town Homes and the Mineral Springs housing complex, as well as to plenty of other developments.
“They’ve worked tirelessly and are continuing to provide pizza for people who need it,” Kosloski said.
The two Wilkes-Barre housing employees helped facilitate the delivery of all these pizzas to doorsteps across Wilkes-Barre. To comply with social distancing guidelines, the pizzas were typically left on doorsteps with a note attached to them.
The reponse has been overwhelming, with many of the recipients of the pizzas calling to express their gratitude.
“A bunch of the residents reached out to thank us and to thank Vesuvio’s,” Wasko said.
Wasko and Kosloski hope that other restaurants follow Vesuvio’s lead and donate food to those in need as the end of the pandemic continues to remain uncertain.
