PLYMOUTH — A Shavertown man who is a lifetime registrant under the state’s Megan’s Law as a violent sexual predator was arrested Monday on allegations he identified himself as a member of the Pennsylvania State Police.

Larry George Wesley, 39, of Cedar Avenue, allegedly approached a couple and their children in the 400 block of East Main Street and identified himself as a law enforcement officer.

Wesley told the couple he was a local cop and asked if everything was okay. He claimed he was out looking for people who have drugs because it was his job to investigate, according to court records.

When police detained Wesley, he allegedly told the officer he was a member of the Pennsylvania State Police and provided a fake badge.

Wesley admitted he was high on methamphetamine and it was his job as a law enforcement officer to serve and protect, court records say.

After Wesley was arrested, police said he needed to be released because he is a law enforcement officer.

Wesley is listed as a lifetime registrant of his address, employment and vehicle with state police under the state’s Megan’s Law.

Court records say Wesley was charged by State College police in Centre County in 2001 with rape, criminal trespass, indecent assault, indecent exposure and simple assault. He pleaded guilty to the charges in Centre County Court and served several years in state prison.

Wesley’s probation sentence imposed in Centre County was transferred to Luzerne County in 2007, court records say.

Wesley was arraigned Tuesday by District Judge Daniel O’Donnell in Luzerne County Central Court on charges of impersonating a public service and public drunkenness. He was jailed at the county correctional facility for lack of $5,000 bail.
