FACTORYVILLE — Local theater group Actors Circle will present “The Miracle Worker” by William Gibson April 16 through 19 and 23 through 26 at Providence Playhouse, 1256 Providence Road, Scranton. Performances will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for senior citizens and $8 for students. For the preview show April 16, tickets are $8 for general admission and senior citizens and $6 for students. For reservations, call 570-342-9709.
Immortalized on stage and screen by Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke, this classic tells the story of Annie Sullivan and her blind and mute student, Helen Keller.
“The Miracle Worker” dramatizes the volatile relationship between the lonely teacher and her charge. Trapped in a secret, silent world, unable to communicate, Helen is violent, spoiled, almost sub-human and treated by her family as such. Only Annie realizes that there is a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued from the dark, tortured silence.
The play is directed by Patricia Purcell and main cast members include Joanna Ferbrache, as Anne Sullivan; Brooke Manley, as Helen; Tom Malone, as Capt. Keller; Deborah Buck, as Kate Keller; Andrew Warnock, as James; Kate Hopkins Loveday as Aunt Ev; Nina Rose Daubenhauser, as Viney; T. J. Zale, as Dr. Agnos.
Other cast members are John Arena, Lou Bisignani, Kayla Conrad, Rebekah Conrad, Nora Bell Daubenhauser, Madison Kingsborough, Megan Malone, Cany’ah Randel, Amaya Ray and and Gwen Sminkey.
