BERWICK — A woman was charged with aggravated assault after stabbing a man after an altercation on Saturday night, according to police.

Christine Gulbrandsen, 46, of Berwick was arrested on Saturday after police responded to the area of East 11th Street and Chestnut Street for a reported male stab victim.

Upon arriving at the scene, police located the victim who approached the car and told officers that he had been stabbed. The victim was bleeding from a large gash in his right shoulder, and was instructed to lay on the sidewalk as a tourniquet was applied to stop the bleeding. The victim was transported to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

While investigating, officers spotted blood on the porch of a residence on 11th Street, where they encountered two females, one of whom being Gulbrandsen.

According to police:

Gulbrandsen told officers that she had been assaulted by the victim earlier, saying that he smashed a vodka bottle over her head. Gulbrandsen was observed to have blood on her hands and lips.

She then said that the victim went inside and assaulted the other female, and when Gulbrandsen tried to intervene, he punched her in the mouth and got on top of her, at which point she stabbed him in the shoulder.

After taking her to the station, Gulbrandsen told officers that she had stabbed the victim after he kicked her in the mouth.

Police interviewed the other female involved in the incident, who told them that she saw Gulbrandsen fighting with the victim outside two separate times, after which Gulbrandsen grabbed a knife and stabbed him.

Gulbrandsen was arraigned and didn’t make bail set at $50,000, and as a result she was transported to the Columbia County Prison to await her preliminary hearing, set for June 8.
