WILKES-BARRE — A man wanted for a robbery of two people in the backyard of a residence on Hutson Street in May was arrested during a traffic stop on Butler Street on Saturday.

City police said they stopped Hassan Ian Jones, 21, of Eastview Drive, Wilkes-Barre, when he was observed operating a vehicle with inoperable brake lights and a license plate hanging by one screw on North Main Street.

Jones stopped on Butler Street, where an officer detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to court records.

A records check showed Jones was wanted by city police after two people reported he robbed them at gunpoint behind 43 Hutson St. on May 30.

According to the criminal complaints:

A man and a woman told police they were planning to meet up with Jones at the Hutson Street residence to hang out. the woman told police she decided to carry her firearm as she did not have a good feeling about meeting Jones.

Jones allegedly approached the man and placed the firearm to his head and demanded items in his possession.

A cellular phone and $300 were stolen during the robbery, the complaint says.

Police said the couple ran to a nearby Turkey Hill to call 911.

During the traffic stop Saturday, police said they found a bag of marijuana in the center console of the vehicle Jones was driving and $720 cash, the complaint says.

Jones was arraigned on separate criminal complaints by District Judge Joseph Spagnuolo charging him with two counts each of robbery, terroristic threats simple assault and harassment for the alleged incident on May 30. Jones was also charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a license and two vehicle citations.
