WILKES-BARRE —While drive-in concerts and comedy shows might still take some getting used to, at least one normal element will be back at the Mohegan Sun Arena this year: tailgating.
You’ll just have to make sure you keep your distance.
The announcement came Tuesday via a release from the arena, regarding performances from stand-up comic Jim Gaffigan and Queen tribute band Almost Queen.
The shows will occur outdoors, with Almost Queen taking the 40-foot outdoor stage on July 17, and Gaffigan performing the following night.
While guests are at the show, ASM Global says, they will be allowed to set up seating in the parking spot directly next to their vehicle; as such, tickets to the event essentially buy guests both the spot their car sits in and the one immediately next to it.
Masks will not be required for guests who are sitting in their “socially distant tailgating” parking space, but they must be worn at virtually any other space, especially including the outdoor restrooms and concession stands.
Since tickets cover a maximum of four people in each car, a maximum of four people are allowed in each tailgating space. Guests can bring food and drinks of their own, but they cannot bring a grill.
Only passenger vehicles will be allowed into the facility for the shows; motorcycles, buses, RVs and other such vehicles will be turned away, as will any car with more than four occupants.
The event is general admission, so specific spaces cannot be reserved. The arena recommends that, if you want to park near friends, you meet elsewhere first to help ensure you arrive at the arena at the same time.
