WILKES-BARRE — The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Wednesday reported three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Luzerne County and no new deaths.

The Luzerne County total cases are now at 2,967 and the death count remains at 179.

In Lackawanna County, there are 1,743 confirmed cases and 207 deaths; in Monroe County, there are 1,451 cases and 111 deaths.

The Department of Health confirmed that there are 849 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 92,148. All 67 counties in Pennsylvania have cases of COVID-19.

There were 995 new cases reported Tuesday.

The number of new cases in Allegheny County increased by 230 cases overnight. Philadelphia County increased by 90 cases overnight.

Maggi Mumma, Deputy Press Secretary at the Department of Health, said the data shows there is a large increase in cases within the 19 to 24-year-old age ranges as reflected in the department’s press release update.

“The department is concerned about the health of all Pennsylvanians, and is closely monitoring the increases and decreases of cases at each county in the commonwealth,” Mumma said.”We know that a lot of this has been from going out to places such as restaurants, bars, events, parties, etc. This is why we need people to take seriously the recommendations that exist, both statewide and locally. We need people to wear a mask at all times unless they can social distance We need people to social distance as much as possible, and to wash their hands frequently.”

Mumma said with the cases among younger age groups, many are either having mild symptoms, or symptoms that do not require hospitalization.

“However, the concern here is that these individuals would expose either older age groups who may be more susceptible, or those who are immuno-compromised, in which case this virus can be deadly.”

The number of tests administered statewide since July 1 is 118,128, with 5,542 positive test results.

There are 6,812 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 25 new deaths reported.
