WILKES-BARRE — A city man was sentenced to state prison this week after he admitted to discharging a firearm at another person during a dispute on Govier Street, Wilkes-Barre, in 2017.

Luzerne County Judge David W. Lupas sentenced Brad A. James, 47, to two years, three months to four years, six months on charges of discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault.

A jury convicted James of the charges after a trial in January.

Wilkes-Barre police alleged James was involved in a dispute with another man on Nov. 3, 2017. The victim struck James in the head with a hammer.

During a struggle, James grabbed a pistol from the victim and discharged a round, city police said.

Assistant district attorneys Drew McLaughlin and Gerry Scott prosecuted.
