BERWICK — Family Service Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania has announced that the Berwick Health and Wellness Fund has issued a grant of $15,000 in support of the PA 211 NE Help Line.

The funds would be used to support information and referral services during the COVID-19 pandemic recoveery period in Berwick and the surrounding area, according to Gertrude C. McGowan, Esq., the CEO of Family Service Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Family Services Association was established in 1895 to provide diverse services to children, seniors and families in need.

PA 211 Northeastern was established in 1972 under the name “Help Line” to provide a central resource for victims of Hurricane Agnes. It quickly became a crisis center for most Wyoming Valley social service agencies and, in 2011, rebranded under the PA 211 Northeastern name.

The line provides a free telephone, text, web information and referral service for issues ranging from food, housing, emergency shelter, mental health, child abuse, drug and alcohol and other related services.

The Berwick Health and Wellness Fund’s service regions includes 23 boroughs and townships in Luzerne and Columbia counties, and is the largest fund of the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation. The fund aims to improve the health and welfare of residents of the two counties.
