WILKES-BARRE — A man from Wilkes-Barre was arrested on an attempted robbery charge alleging he instructed a store clerk at a Turkey Hill to open the store’s safe early Wednesday morning.

City police allege Mark Norman, 37, entered the store on North Wilkes-Barre Boulevard just before 1 a.m.

A store clerk told police Norman approached the counter and said, “I know you work here. Tell me the code to the safe. I want you to open the safe,” according to the criminal complaint.

The store clerk told Norman he was not able to open the safe, the complaint says.

Police in the complaint reported Norman requested cigarettes but was told by the clerk to leave the store.

The store clerk followed Norman outside and observed him get into a Chevrolet Suburban driven by Reynaldo Molina, 35, the complaint says.

Police said the store clerk reported he took out his cell phone pretending to record when Molina yelled to him, “What the (expletive) you looking at,” before driving away at a high rate of speed.

A partial license plate was obtained that led police to a residence on North Pennsylvania Avenue where Molina was arrested.

Norman was found in Kirby Park, police said.

Norman was charged with robbery and recklessly endangering another person and Molina was charged with criminal conspiracy to commit robbery and false reports.

District Judge Donald Whittaker of Nanticoke arraigned the two men who were jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $100,000 bail, each.
